Witchcraft Spell Book: The Complete Guide of Witchcraft Rituals & Spells for Beginners by G. Alan Joel

Review
G. Alan Joel’s “Witchcraft Spell Book: The Complete Guide of Witchcraft Rituals & Spells for Beginners” is a how-to book that presents witchcraft and magic as hypotheses for readers to test for themselves, taking nothing on "blind faith."

A compilation of G. Alan Joel's series, "Witchcraft Spell Books," this beginner's manual includes some history on witchcraft, practitioner testimonials, definitions of terms, and complete instructions for the practice of 27 spells and rituals involving the four elements of the Universe: Air, Water, Fire, and Earth.

Witchcraft is available for everyone to learn, and what efforts are put into the practices of intentionality, prayer, and deliberate creation, G. Alan Joel says will pay you back with interest.

By practicing the "precise science" of witchcraft and adhering to its specific rules and procedures, a multitude of benefits can be realized.  For example, witchcraft connects you with spirit (the keepers of dreams and life lessons), helps you remember what you want, and aids your connections with powers and beings (angels, animal totems, and Spirit guides).

The greatest feature of this beginner's guide is the author's clear and honest explanation of the outcomes of witchcraft and of the science itself.  Witchcraft emphasizes conscious creation and tapping into our intuitive selves, helping individuals break free from reactionary living and transform life in the ways they want.

The Witchcraft Spell Book: The Complete Guide of Witchcraft Rituals & Spells for Beginners” is perfect if you are new to the practice of witchcraft and are looking for assistance to achieve a conscious state of being.

Nightmare City by Jack Conner

Review
"Nightmare City" is a book anyone who loves adventure will enjoy.

The book is full of mystery, action, adventure, horror, and derring-do -- there are Frankenstein-like undead creatures, ghost monsters, among others, in a city that seems like early 1900s NYC with something amiss.

One of the highlights is the heroine, a foul-mouthed ass-kicker. Her name is Katya, and she is a thief who is in trouble. She hooks up with the local mafia boss, who is also in trouble because another mafia boss has declared war on him. The plot is fun to follow, with lots of things happening at the same time, from mafia war to super natural creatures appearing.

The book has some elements of steampunk, but doesn't neatly fit into the genre. The author calls the book "post-steampunk" -- and this seems fitting. It has a similar vibe, but not exactly the same. One could also say the book feels pulpy.

Overall, if you are someone who likes action and steampunkish things, Nightmare City is something you would really enjoy.

furtl by Strobe Witherspoon

Review
"furtl" is a near-future technopolitical dystopian satire with tie-ins to current events... and the book has the potential to be prophetic.

The book is set in 2026, and it follows the dying American tech company, furtl, as a Chinese company takes over the market.

With hopes of quelling the Chinese company's take over, furtl lobbies the government to ban Holospace technology -- and the government requests user information in return.

As a reader, lots of words come to mind while reading: NSA, wikileaks, Snowden, National Defense Authorization Act, Bradley Manning, and more. You will catch yourself reminiscing on many current events as you read -- it's inevitable!

No matter what side of the whole privacy-vs-safety thing you're on, "furtl" will make you think. Furthermore, it will entertain you... and it WILL make you laugh. A great read for anyone who likes technology and politics and dystopian fiction!

On the Inside (A Classic Mafia Crime and Punishment book with Gangsters) by James Kipling

Review
"On the Inside," by James Kipling, is a suspense crime thriller that continually wows from start to finish.

The story revolves around Detective Hazel Hanson, a fierce female protagonist, with stubborn tendencies and bullish approach to solving crime.

Set in New York City, Hazel runs into problems when she is assigned to solve the puzzling "Slitter Case" -- a case involving the brutal killings of young women.

The story really takes off when federal law enforcement gets involved -- and Hazel's love appears on the scene.

The plot really has all that you could want from a thriller: a serial killer, mafia, law enforcement, assassinations and conspiracies, and more.

The book has a huge psychological component, and you find yourself wondering which characters you can trust.

The plot, between the suspense, action, and characters, will keep you up at night.

Overall, if you like smart writing and a clever, engaging plot, then "On the Inside" is the perfect crime fiction new release for you!

Three Faces of Sex by Stella Ralfini

Review
Stella Ralfini's "Three Faces of Sex" is a book that tells you how to spice up your sex life in a variety of ways. The author, life coach Stella Ralfini, has been a tantric guide and practitioner (she's even studied in India) since the 1990s, and her decades of experience show in the book.

Having worked with hundreds of couples, Stella knows how to make couples ignite the physical aspect of their relationship. Stella really covers the gambit in this book, writing on every topic from sex positions to fantasy scenarios.

At the core of this book is getting to know your partner, and learning to meet each other's needs. Much of Stella's work is based on philosophies learned in India, but has been improved and adjusted by Stella after her years of working with clients.

The book is incredibly easy to read and implement, and have shared the book with my wife.

Stella's philosophy is essential for keeping the physical aspect of a relationship going.

This book is a must-read for anyone wanting to make changes in their attitudes and behaviors that will ultimately improve their intimacy.

Running Stupid (A Classic Organized Crime and Punishment, a fiction story about serial killers and murder) by Morris Fenris and Ezra White

Review
"Running Stupid" is a new crime fiction book, specifically an imaginative thriller, with lots of humor and suspense.

The story follows Matthew Jester, someone whose luck seems to have no limits. For instance, he purchased a failing ice cream shop, only to have wealthy enclave be built on the land soon after.

When Jester decides to try his luck, he ends up in a series of non-stop difficult situations, involving serial killers, kidnappers, and various other criminals -- many of them trying to kill him.

The plot is incredibly engaging, and there is not a moment where you'll wan tot stop reading -- and the ending will have you gasping.

Characterization of Matthew Jester is thorough, and you find yourself understanding him, whether or not you are rooting for him.

There is also a lot of humor in the book, including strange images, my favorite being a prophetic fairy who wears an NYC baseball cap and smokes cigars.

If you are someone who wants a fresh, unique, funny, riveting thriller, then "Running Stupid" is the perfect novel for you.

Review
"Every Silver Lining Has a Cloud : Relapse and the Symptoms of Sobriety," by Scott Stevens, is a book about recovery and alcoholism that focuses on why alcoholics tend to relapse.

The narrator, a recovering alcoholic, begins by describing a lapse in his recovering that occurred after years of being sober.

He reflects on his own life, as well as other resources, including scientific research.

His assertion is, that for the alcoholic, sobriety is the dangerous state, and recognizing when the alcoholic is suffering under sobriety is key for ensuring he does not return to the bottle.

The book's writing is accurate, covering what the alcoholic feels and what the non-alcoholic wonders.

One of the strenghts of this book is that it gives answers, rather than just asks questions, which are backed by unbiased professionals.

Whether you are an alcoholic, an alcoholic's loved one, or just want to be more informed about the illness, "Every Silver Lining Has a Cloud" will answer lots of questions and allow you to be much more informed about the illness and recovery.

Empire of the Worm by Jack Conner

Review
Jack Conner's "Empire of the Worm" is a melding of multiple genres, predominantly fantasy and horror.

The book's premise is incredibly engaging: think Cthulhu in Ancient Egpyt. The plot is chock-full of action and suspense. It begins with Prince Davril having to make a choice between sacrificing his fiancee to a god-like beast or face its wrath. He chooses the second choice and results are terrifying.

Unimaginable horrors make way for the kingdom, and Davril finds himself trying to keep it all together. The task is made complicated by an evil uncle with an insidious plan. In the midst of all the chaos, the Worm arrives -- and the results are hellish.

Without giving too much away, this book contains lots of strange terrors and dread events. The book is extremely fast-paced and action-packed, but maintains its character-oriented writing style

The book is not for minors (there's violence and graphic sex), but if you’re an adult that likes Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard, "Empire of the Worm" is a must-read.

The Isolation Door by Anish Majumdar

Review
Anish Majumdar's "The Isolation Door" is a novel about a young man witnessing the downward spiral of his mother, who suffers from schizophrenia.

The main character, Neil Kapoor, is a 23-year-old student who is trying escape the consuming clutches of his mother's illness. Her schizophrenia dominates his family's lives, between the sadness and the care taking.

Neil explores drama school and relationships as a means of escape from his mom's illness, but each attempt, although helpful, also brings about new challenges.

Majumdar does an excellent job of relaying all of the characters' emotions to the reader, from depression to joy.

Majumdar does a particularly good job of capturing the mother's schizophrenia and her culture, since she is of Bengali descent.

The highlight of the book is the way it portrays a family dealing with an illness with someone close.

This is a story that has played out millions of times around the world, and most of us can relate to it, but Majumdar casts it in a light that allows us to learn from it.

If you like stories about overcoming obstacles and facing adversity or you have had a close family member affected by a consuming illness, then you will enjoy "The Isolation Door."
