Beneath the Veil by William McNally

beneath the veil, william mcnally, supernatural, horror, scifi
Review
"Beneath the Veil" is a gripping novel with a unique blend of horror, supernatural, and sci-fi.

The story follows Barry, a sculptor in search of a relative to give him a bone marrow transplant. His search takes him, as well as his adoptive sister and her boyfriend, to Auraria – a town inhabited by ghastly creatures. There, Barry discovers his horrific family history.

William McNally eases the reader into the horror/supernatural elements of the story, allowing you to connect with the characters before things get intense. Yet at the same time, you get an eerie feeling that horrific things are on the horizon. The supernatural element feels fresh and adds an extra layer to the story.

I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a scary tale with a strong supernatural/sci-fi element.

Dark Hunger by Kevin Kneupper

Review
Kevin Kneupper's "Dark Hunger" (book 2 in the Demon Hunter series) is a thriller short story with elements of horror.

"Dark Hunger" follows demon hunter Cade Crowley. A man with some vices, including the drink, he's hired hesitantly by the Vatican after they realize they need to go to outside sources to deal with their demon problem.

Cade's ability to see demons and spirits gives him an edge in the fight against demons, although demon hunting is no cakewalk.

The plot really kicks into gear when other religions move into the demon-fighting business, and Cade's own demons rise to the surface.

"Dark Hunger" is a must-read if you like suspense/thriller stories as well as supernatural demons/spirits.

Empire of the Worm by Jack Conner

Review
Jack Conner's "Empire of the Worm" is a melding of multiple genres, predominantly fantasy and horror.

The book's premise is incredibly engaging: think Cthulhu in Ancient Egpyt. The plot is chock-full of action and suspense. It begins with Prince Davril having to make a choice between sacrificing his fiancee to a god-like beast or face its wrath. He chooses the second choice and results are terrifying.

Unimaginable horrors make way for the kingdom, and Davril finds himself trying to keep it all together. The task is made complicated by an evil uncle with an insidious plan. In the midst of all the chaos, the Worm arrives -- and the results are hellish.

Without giving too much away, this book contains lots of strange terrors and dread events. The book is extremely fast-paced and action-packed, but maintains its character-oriented writing style

The book is not for minors (there's violence and graphic sex), but if you’re an adult that likes Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard, "Empire of the Worm" is a must-read.
