How to Win in Every Scenario by Rom Gayoso

Review
Rom Gayoso's "How to Win in Every Scenario" covers in-depth the decision-making approach called scenario planning.

"How to Win in Every Scenario" begins by describing the different components of scenario planning (agents, stage, timing, perspective, etc). One of the strengths of the book is that it provides historical examples to help the reader understand the different aspects of scenario planning.

Even if you have no background in scenario planning prior to reading the book, you'll have no problem follow along because the author starts simple and builds up. The book then presents three public policy situations (stem cell research, renewable energy, and the situation in Ukraine) and shows you how scenario planning can be applied to them.

The text strikes the perfect balance of simplicity and thoroughness. It's easy to approach yet is filled with information. For anyone interested in optimizing their decision-making, this book is a must-read.

VAN LAVEN CHRONICLES: THRONE OF NOVOXOS by Tyler Chase

Review
"THRONE OF NOVOXOS," by Tyler Chase, the first book of the VAN LAVEN CHRONICLES, is a gripping fantasy/sci-fi novel with elements of suspense, adventure, and even romance.

The book revolves around Comron Van Laven, the heir to the Van Laven empire. Handsome, intelligent, and somewhat reckless, Comron plunges headfirst into dangerous situations, but always emerges without any complications ... until he gets involved with Vaush, an intoxicatingly beautiful woman who consumes him.

Vaush gives enemies of the Van Laven empire with the leverage they need to strike a blow to the Van Lavens. From start to finish, "THRONE OF NOVOXOS" has a fresh, original feeling. There are futuristic weapons, such as blast rifles, and transport vessels, but there are also political conflicts reminiscent of the conflicts between medieval houses. There is a bit of a "Game of Thrones" vibe to that aspect of the book.

One of the strongest aspects of the book is the action. Chase writes engaging action scenes that incorporate the novel's futuristic weapons seamlessly. The political tug-of-war between the political factions is attention-grabbing and well-done.

"THRONE OF NOVOXOS"s plot is paced well, starting with with action (an execution scene) and continually gaining momentum until the end, perfectly setting the scene for a sequel. If you want a fresh scifi/fantasy novel, this is a must-read!

Captured by Willow Danes

Review
"Captured," by Willow Danes, is a romance novel, with elements of scifi and fantasy, that will have you clamoring for the sequel.

The book begins when Jenna McNally discovers a mysterious crash site near her grandfather's cabin. She investigates and discovers an alien creature...that captures here. The alien, named Ra'kur, has mistakingly landed on Earth during a search for a mate.

Readers will love reading about the interactions of Jenna and Ra'kur. Danes really captures what it would be like to meet a human-like being from another planet. The writing perfectly captures Jenna's complex emotions -- from her fear, to her sense of wonder, to her surprising affection for Ra'kur.

The plot evolves into a love story unlike anything you've ever read. As a reader, you get to see Jenna share her language, customs, and emotions with Ra'kur. You really get to see the relationship grow from nothing to something very unique.

If you're a romance fan looking for a fresh story, look no further. It doesn't get more fresh than this.
