Nightmare City by Jack Conner

Review
"Nightmare City" is a book anyone who loves adventure will enjoy.

The book is full of mystery, action, adventure, horror, and derring-do -- there are Frankenstein-like undead creatures, ghost monsters, among others, in a city that seems like early 1900s NYC with something amiss.

One of the highlights is the heroine, a foul-mouthed ass-kicker. Her name is Katya, and she is a thief who is in trouble. She hooks up with the local mafia boss, who is also in trouble because another mafia boss has declared war on him. The plot is fun to follow, with lots of things happening at the same time, from mafia war to super natural creatures appearing.

The book has some elements of steampunk, but doesn't neatly fit into the genre. The author calls the book "post-steampunk" -- and this seems fitting. It has a similar vibe, but not exactly the same. One could also say the book feels pulpy.

Overall, if you are someone who likes action and steampunkish things, Nightmare City is something you would really enjoy.
